On The Edge

10 Feb 2009 to 19 Feb 2009
Alma Tavern Theatre, Bristol

This collaboration between Stepping Out Theatre, Theatre West and Dreamweavers was the second part of the 'Writing in The Margins' 15 minute script competition which Theatre West ran in 2008. The 4 scripts presented in 'On The Edge' were all originally shortlisted for that competition. All four of the writers were offered dramaturgical support by Stepping Out Theatre.

The evening of four short pieces ran for two weeks and the production was a huge success, gaining the first ever five star review for the company and some of the highest audiences we had ever achieved at the Alma Theatre.

The plays subsequently went on to be performed at Fromeside Clinic on Friday April 24th.

Reviews

"For a check-up on the condition of new writing in Bristol, these four cheerful vignettes about dealing with mental health will certainly leave you optimistic . . What characterises all four plays is efficient writing, crisp direction, and therapeutic humour."
      Nicola Yeeles, Venue Magazine

"The Alma Tavern felt like the perfect venue to invoke the proper intimacy for this performance. With each story involving wonderfully unique storylines, all delivered with unwavering energy, this is an intriguing and satisfying way to contemplate such serious issues, provoking smiles and laughter throughout a week of almost nightly sell-out performances."
 Fran McElhone, Suit Yourself Magazine

"The plays, a collaboration between Theatre West and Stepping Out Theatre, are so palpably new they almost have the tags still attached. Chock-full of bright ideas, a tight group of actors and a slick series of sets manage to punch far above their weight."
Sophie Lomax, The Bristol Evening Post
