'Leonie, sweetheart, I'm really not finding it erotic to be identified with a crazy, dead child abuser . .'

When kidnap victim Natascha Kampusch walked out of Wolfgang Priklopil's life and into a media frenzy the story she told was not the one the world wanted to hear. She refused to condemn her captor and even wept at his grave . .

And now a young journalist is researching the notorious Austrian kidnap case. As her obsession grows, it reveals a frightening web of connections with her own life.

A darkly comic, tender and shocking love story.

After producing three previous 15 minute plays by her, 'Mascara' was Crysse Morrison's first full one act play for Stepping Out Theatre. It previewed at the Corner House in Frome, our second visit to that venue, before a full two week run in Bristol. Audience feedback was among the best ever for our productions and the company are interested in taking this production further.

Reviews

" . . the opening night, in the torrid heat of the intimate Corner House, was an unforgettable experience."

"The production and acting from Stepping Out did fabulous justice to these many layered ideas and visceral realities . . Stepping Out deserve all the subsidy and support they can get and Morrison is a playwright to watch."

"Powerful, formidable, compelling. Original research into a true story both chilling and touching . . every moment of the play was gripping. Some strange truths evolve, especially about the mother-daughter relationship and the collusion of all relationhips. Really memorable and exciting . . a play that will keep you thinking about it for days. I did. A real triumph for Crysse Morrison and everyone involved in the production."
